The Word of God

The Wonder of the Word of God

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

The Bible is so common place in most Christian homes that we have lost our reverence for it. I own multiple copies and various translations. I have an app for it on my phone. I read it daily. But do I really appreciate the wonder of the Bible?

When we hear or read God's Word we are encountering God Himself.

Read that sentence again and let it settle in. God meets us in His Word.

The Power of the Word

God's Word is inseparable from God Himself:

  • The Word performs divine acts

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made ... Psalm 33:6

... the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. John 12:48

... receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21

  • The Word has divine attributes

Forever, O Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens. Psalm 119:89

so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; Psalm 19:7

  • The Word is a proper object of praise

In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise ... Psalm 56:10

  • The Word is Jesus

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

  1. Amen! It’s the Air we breath and it’s all apart of ‘abiding in Him.’
“I sat down in His shade with great delight, and His Fruit was sweet to my taste.” SOS 2:3b
“One who turns away his ear from hearing the Law, even his prayer is an abomination.” Pr.28:9
“Blessed is the man who listens to Me, watching daily at My gates.” Pr. 8:34

GOD has expressed His heart from the very beginning, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of GOD.” It’s all apart of the Joshua Code . . . Josh. 1:8.

It it Medicine to all our flesh. Pr. 4:20-23.

  2. WE in America, had plenty of opportunity (until recently with recent events) to take The Word of GOD in the country for granted. Nobody was breaking down our doors to search for Bibles, or arrest those who had them. Our Constitution calls it Freedom of Religion and Illegal Search and Seizure. The latter can be found in the Bible. NOT SO in other countries (especially now). Even back during the Cold War, American missionaries had to SMUGGLE the Gospel in countries behind the Iron Curtain. They favored the Gospel of John because it is the shortest (small size). Today, government SPIES are being sent into churches in Afghanistan, Syria, China, among others.
