Episode 42 - Singing a New Song
In Episode 42 of Worship Moments, Dr. Wyrick explains how to sing a new song during instrumental breaks in worship.
For those who prefer to read, below is the text of the video:
Have you ever noticed people singing worship to God when there were no lyrics to sing? In the last video I talked about worshiping when the band is playing but there are no lyrics. I briefly mentioned that you could sing your praise to God. But how can you sing your praise if there are no lyrics?
The answer is, you make up a simple tune and sing your praise to God. For some people this may feel impossible – and maybe it is. I honestly can't speak for everyone. But if you are musical, you have probably already found yourself humming or whistling a tune of a few pitches that you just made up without really thinking about it. If you know anything about music theory, these simple melodies are usually based around the interval of a third.
To sing praises to God during an instrumental break select a few pitches that fit with the music and chant your praise. If you haven't noticed yet, many worship leaders do this during instrumental breaks. Listen to some worship music and notice how often they sing – more like chant – praises on a few pitches during the instrumental parts of the song.
It will take practice to become comfortable with doing this, but it is a great way to join in and praise God. Why not put on some music and try it now?
