Program Goals

Upon graduation, the student will

  • Have a general knowledge of the Bible and its doctrines.
  • Understand how to develop a growing relationship with God, in Christ, through the Spirit.
  • Be well rounded in General Studies including Communication, Mathematics, Fine Arts, Culture and Logic
  • Understand the principles of good communication.
  • Have the skills to act in or direct a dramatic production.

It is designed for those seeking part-time employment.  Those seeking full-time employment are encouraged to obtain a 4 year degree.

COM-210 Communication Theory

3 credit hours

Study the basic concepts, models and theories concerning the role of communication in human behavior. Connect theory to practice in a variety of contexts: interpersonal, group and organizational communication.

COM-240 Voice and Interpretation

3 credit hours

Study modern acting techniques to gain greater control over your body and voice. Learn to clearly communicate character to the audience. Prerequisite: COM-101.

TEC-310 Storytelling

3 credit hours

Study the history and application of storytelling. Practical instruction in the art of storytelling as it relates to numerous fields. Learn how to become more imaginative and confident storytellers and communicators in a wide variety of settings.

COM-290 Communication Practicum
3 credit hoursApply communication in a real-world setting. Build practical skill and gain experience through work in a professional setting. Church or para-church ministry settings will be given priority.

COM-101 Introduction to Theater

2 credit hours

An introduction to the dramatic arts by examining the history, terminology and basic techniques of the theater.

COM-105 Theater Lab I

1 credit hour

Laboratory experience in the practical application of stagecraft to scenery construction, costume construction, stage lighting and theater management.

COM-106 Theater Lab II

1 credit hour

Laboratory experience in the practical application of stagecraft to scenery construction, costume construction, stage lighting and theatre management.

COM-250 Principles of Acting

3 credit hours

An introduction to the art and practice of acting in performance. Learn the primary acting skills and techniques of dramatic performance. Prerequisite: COM-101.

COM-320 Play Directing

3 credit hours

Study the basic theories and techniques of stage directing. Develop a basic understanding of the directing process. Prerequisite: COM-101.

COM-340 Theater History I

3 credit hours

A comprehensive look at theater in the ancient world to 1650. Explores theatrical architecture, conventions, and literature as they interact with cultural movements. Prerequisite: COM-101
COM-345 Theater History II

3 credit hours

A comprehensive look at theater from 1650 to the present. Explores theatrical architecture, conventions, and literature as they interact with cultural movements. Prerequisite: COM-101
